Biggest Food Trends of 2018 So Far

2018 may have just begun, but you can bet people are already chowing down. 2017 was a great year of food, we witnessed wood-fired bagels and beautiful burgers. But I think we can all agree that we are over 2018, and that extends to food too (although of course, some staples, like avocado toast, are here to stay). There are already a bunch of food trends that are either already being carried out or are in talks to be the great culinary masterpieces of 2018. Catering CC, the best event catering in South Florida, discusses their favorite 2018 food trends, thus far.

Tinned Seafood and Other Portuguese Fare

The head chef of Catering CC is from the Caribbean, so it’s no secret that we enjoy seafood. A new trend coming out this year completely caters to our fish love! Portuguese food, especially seafood, is becoming incredibly popular. The art of preparing the fish as they do in Portugal, with some oil and not much else, is catching on both in home kitchens and the busiest, most popular restaurants. Also becoming popular is tinned seafood, prepared in the Portuguese way. The fish is canned and packed with olive oil. You can put it on crackers or really anything you want. It’s like tuna’s much cooler cousin! Trust us, you will love this 2018 trend.

Wine Bar

This trend isn’t necessarily one food, but is sure to introduce a bunch of new booze and food options for 2018. The conception of the American wine bar is something that is attracting a lot of attention these days. Europe has been enjoying the conviviality, ease and affordability of wine bars for years, especially in Western European countries like Spain, France and Italy. These wine nation behemoths offer glasses of their most popular wines in wine bars all over, usually boasting competitive prices and warm ambience. Well, Americans liked that tradition so much that they decided to bring it to this side of the Atlantic. Now, wine bars are popping up all over the country, little precursors to dinner or a night on the town, and we have to say, they are lovely.

Japanese Breakfast Food

Say what? You’ve probably never heard of Japanese breakfast food, but less us tell you why it’s super relevant and awesome. There’s so much that comes with a Japanese breakfast, arguably more than that which comes when we order the more typical British or american breakfasts. The Japanese breakfast includes eggs with furikake, miso for seasoning eggs or whatever, a pickled vegetable salad, grilled fish and much, much more. It’s a great way to to start the day feeling healthy.
